About Course

Recognising mental health disorders is one of the most important competencies for counsellors and helping professionals. Early identification can significantly improve outcomes, facilitate timely intervention, and ensure that clients receive the most appropriate level of care. However, distinguishing between normal psychological distress and clinically significant mental health conditions requires sound knowledge, ethical judgment, and evidence-based practice.

This CPD training equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to recognise common mental health disorders encountered in counselling practice. Participants will learn to identify key signs and symptoms, conduct ethical screening and assessment within their scope of practice, apply appropriate counselling interventions, and recognise when referral to psychologists, psychiatrists, or other specialists is necessary.

The course emphasises evidence-based practice, ethical decision-making, cultural sensitivity, and collaborative mental healthcare, enabling participants to provide safe, competent, and person-centred support while working within professional and ethical boundaries.
